You know, what if a non mage found out their true name and had it sealed? What would happen then? I’m pretty sure they have them. Would they get magic, or maybe not?
Seriously, why aren’t we asking questions like this? This stuff is important.
Saracen Rue’s Power
OK, I found a really interesting idea for what Saracen’s power is, but I’ve been holding back talking about it because it isn’t mine. I’d like to give credit where credit is due, but it’s from the Skulduggery Pleasant Wild Mass Guess page on TV Tropes, but I don’t know how to check who posted it.
Anyway: X-ray vision.
Or at least the ability to see through solid objects.
At first I was like, no, that can’t be it, but then I re-read LSODM.
- He knew Dacanay had a new ID badge in his pocket.
- He knew two people were carrying knives behind their backs.
- He didn’t know how to get through the magic wall into the English Sanctuary, but he did know there wasn’t anyone waiting for them on the other side.
- He checks which rooms are clear on Dead Men missions.
- He knew Stephenie was watching them from behind a bookcase.
All of that could totally be explained by seeing through stuff.
If there’s something in M7 that contradicts this, I’m sorry. I’m trying to make my library get it from another library, but it’ll be weeks if they even give it to me at all. (I want more Gracious and Donegan, dammit…)
My dumb theory.
Wait so at the end of Last Stand of Dead Men Darquesse is all like: sup suckers Valkyrie is gone lol.
But where is Val? I refuse to believe she is dead. No way.
So I think that Darquesse really believes Val is dead, (because Darquesse is not the kind to lie) but in truth Valkyrie is completely expelled from her body.
Maybe she’s floating around chilling as a sole consciousness, or maybe she has a new body of her own. Maybe she became a remnant. Maybe she was shunted. Maybe she became a faceless one or an ancient.
Or perhaps she is the Reflection’s new reflection.
this is a cracky and ridiculous idea but
what if the only way to stop darquesse and vile (for the sake of argument lord vile shows up ok) is to somehow erase their minds and make them ‘mortal?’
like they can’t be killed and they can’t be stopped some other way, the only thing to do is try and convince them they have no power
like somehow someone figures out how to give skulduggery a permanent body facade or something, and they isolate the two and send them on their way
and there’s like a squad of folks tasked with keeping mortal val and skul ‘safe’ and out of harm’s way
but of course this plan doesn’t work forever
guys, you know how in Mortal Coil, Darquesse destroyed the Remnant inside her by heating her entire body up?
well my friend told me, what if Darquesse cures Tanith Low the same way, by heating her up and vaporizing the Remnant within?
do you think that maybe going and grabbing skulduggery from the faceless ones’ universe was one of the things that make darquesse appear?
i mean visions of darquesse were only mentioned in dark days, after skulduggery had returned…
maybe the reason darquesse kills everyone is because she found out something incredibly horrible about the world, something that makes her lose her sense of fun (let’s be honest, the fact that she’s having a good time is pretty much the only reason the apocalypse hasn’t started yet)
i’m not entirely sure what this revelation would be exactly
only that it would involve the whole world, something about the innate nature of magic or the world—a revelation of or a betrayal by one person would be something she could deal with, i think
maybe there’s something awful about magic we don’t know, like maybe it warps people’s minds and souls in some unfixable way, maybe the whole human race is poisoned with magic
or maybe she learns that her existence was engineered on purpose, someone was trying to create a great and terrible sorcerer or trying to revive the ancients
i don’t know really, i just like thinking
I wonder if seahags are just a sort of monster, or if they’re maybe a sort of witch, and somehow they transform into seamonster mermaids.
i want another sea hag or river hag or something or just plain mermaid if they exist i would greatly approve
what if val’s surge is the thing that makes darquesse go all-out murderous on her family
the surge is meant to be a ton of magical power right?
and that + what she’s already got is enough to throw someone off their rocker (even further than she already is)

If you haven’t read the series, I totally recommend it! It’s got people with superhuman type powers, living skeletons, sarcasm (a hell of a lot of it), LOTS of humour to balance out the horrifically depressing bits, and the characters are overall greatly thought and the plot is immense. I’m suprised it’s not very popular on tumblr!
