Okay so I don’t know if any of you read the Skulduggery Pleasant series, by Derek Landy. But I’m midway through the 6th one, and I am utterly, utterly convinced that China Sorrows is queer.
She could be lesbian, or bi-, pan-, or polysexual. I ship past-her and Eliza Scorn like wildfire, fight me. Now they’re trying to kill each other so probably not so much…I’m just saying, they have history. They also call each other “my darling” a lot.
She could be ace or aro, based off all of her comments about how it’s not HER fault people fall in love with her, she’s just never gonna reciprocate it. Though I’m not sure if that’s supposed to be a “I am above you all no I don’t love you I’m the fucking queen” sort of statement or a “I don’t experience sexual or romantic attraction so I’m laughing at your declarations of love” sort of statement.
She could be trans? I don’t know, I haven’t seen any evidence in the writing to support this, or even hint at it, but I’m basically pulling stuff out of my ass for the rest of these suppositions, so whatever. I’m using she/her pronouns here because those are what’s used in the books. And she is a boss-ass sorcerer, so I would totally not be surprised if some of her tattoos were transformational, to combat dysphoria, or to just change her appearance depending on where on the gender spectrum she falls on any given day. One thing’s for sure: no matter what she identifies as, she’s gonna look fucking awe-inspiring. It’s a character trait.
In any case, I am 1000% convinced that China Sorrows is queer, and you can pry this headcanon from my cold, dead hands.
